Hey, I’m Katie.
A Licensed Clinical Social Worker, helping therapists build careers and practices that feel aligned, meaningful, and authentically their own.
HOW I GOT HERE:
I graduated from NC State (Go Wolfpack!) in 2014 with a Bachelors in Communication and a Bachelors in Psychology.
From there I received my masters in social work from University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2016. Since then I have worked with a diverse array of settings and populations, each requiring a specific skill set in mental health treatment.
Prior to founding my practice, I worked with a variety of populations and settings in direct practice for eight years. With each passing year and organization; I learned more and more. I learned that not every therapist, manager and owner actually practices ethically— disrespecting client’s privacy, horrendously subpar notes, and the DREADED engaging in dual relationships. I learned how insurance companies control all aspects and accessibility of treatment—from what diagnosis code their accept to denying coverage because a client isn’t “sick enough.” I learned about the inhumanness of mandatory therapy for marginalized populations (i.e. a person on parole is supposed to have a job and attend 3x weekly group therapy that the clinician then debriefs with the parole officer or face penalization, potentially jail time. Is that how we define justice?). And I learned first hand the societal expectation for caring professions to work for a meager salary and don’t dare ask for more.
So I learned what works for me.
Weekly client rhythms that allow me to show up as my best therapist self AND present human in my personal life. I found what modalities resonate with me and how to apply them with authenticity. The populations I am passionate about and work well with.
I had the opportunity to work in some really wonderful practices and with incredible clinicians, supervisors and managers. I saw what was possible when clinicians had the space to trust, learn, grow, and try new things.
Through the transition to private practice, I experienced how much support therapists need and often do not have access too.
In 2024, I founded Woven Therapy to create that kind of home for clinicians and clients alike, with my ethics and excellence at the forefront. Today, I fill many roles at Woven, including supervisor, practice manager, head of marketing, and clinician.
